Good Stuff
And some bad stuff as well.
This was the busiest week I've ever had. I think.
So, Tuesday was a domestic violence trial. My client is a somewhat challenged individual and I thought had good argument. Unfortunately jury just didn't see it and he was found guilty. Now will try to convince the Judge that a probationary sentence is more appropriate than a prison sentence. This one hit me really hard.
Wednesday was Failure to Report as a Sex Offender. Client was arrested on other charges on the 10th day. And testified that his intention was to return to the homeless shelter where he was registered. Judge didn't accept factual argument that the state interfered with his ability to register properly, or the constitutional argument that homeless people shouldn't be treated any differently than non-homeless. guilty, but did convince the judge that an enhanced prison sentence was not appropriate. This case will be appealed.
Thursday was a client charged with unlawfully taking a car. That was a grueling day. Client decided to testify after the State was finished. He testified very well, the ADA got very frustrated with him. My client wouldn't be fazed. During close the ADA's primary argument was that we had fashioned up my client's testimony after hearing the State's case. After about an hour of deliberation the jury came back with Not Guilty. I was rather relieved. My client gave me a big hug.
The hippie chick then sent me flowers yesterday. Gerbera daisies. Which are my favorites.
Oh, and also, Tuesday night we went to see Ani DiFranco. That was a good show. She's really good.
So, this weekend we're heading out to get some vino. and maybe hanging pictures on the walls. Tomorrow is trial prep for my next trial. Tuesday. Assault, and it's with the same ADA as I was in trial with on Thursday. He's really full of himself and if I could get two wins in a row against him I'd be really happy.
