Adventures in the Valley

A change in career plans led me to the public defender's office. So here are my thoughts on bicycling, brewing, baking and the occasional work crap.

experimentation

Today was a jam packed full day.

Read the paper, like I do everyday. I put together the beginnings of a compost structure, and started up the new compost pile. I pulled out the ol' chipper shredder and shredded up the woody stemmed plants from the garden. Next weekend we'll be raking leaves and I'll run those throw the shredder too.

We ran to the store so's the hippie chick could get her ingredients to put together a fruit cake. Yup, apparently people actually DO make fruit cakes. I'm betting it'll be fuckin awesome cuz the fruit and nuts smell freakin awesome.

I bought some cheap low fat beef. After I went to the office to finalize prep for a trial tomorrow, and take clothes to my jailed client I came home and cut it up for jerky. I just put the meat in the convection oven and it smells amazing. We're all wanting to eat it all up.

I also bought 10 pounds of cabbage and shredded that up and salted it and garlicked it. In a month and a half we'll be eating sauerkraut!!! It's already brined up and should start fermenting away here real soon.

Mmmmm, I do love me my preserving shit. Tons o' fun!!
